Freshman Index Requirements
Information for Future Students
In addition to meeting the high school curriculum, high school GPA and SAT/ACT score requirements, students applying to a USG research, comprehensive, or state university, or to a state college that requires SAT/ACT, must meet a minimum freshman index (FI). The freshman index is calculated using your HSGPA and SAT or ACT scores.
FI calculated using SAT scores
The SAT formula is based on the old SAT (pre-March 2016). The scores for students who have taken new SAT (taken March 2016 or later) are first converted to the comparable old SAT scores using the College Board concordance tables. New SAT Reading test scores are converted to the comparable old SAT Critical Reading section scores and new SAT Math test scores are converted to the comparable old SAT Math section scores.
The SAT FI formula is: 500 x (HSGPA) + old SAT Critical Reading section score + old SAT Math section score
FI Calculated using ACT scores
The ACT FI formula is:
500 x (HSGPA) + (ACT Composite x 42) + 88
Each USG university and state college that requires SAT/ACT has established a minimum freshman index required for admission. Prospective freshmen are encouraged to view the USG Freshman Admission Requirements document for the HSGPA, test score and freshman index requirements for each of the colleges and universities in the University System.
