The University of West Georgia (UWG) – a four-year institution – seeks to achieve preeminence in providing educational excellence in a personal environment through an intellectually stimulating and supportive community for its students, faculty, and staff.
The University, a charter member of the University System of Georgia, is a comprehensive, residential institution providing selectively-focused undergraduate and graduate public higher education to the people of West Georgia and beyond. The University is also committed to regional outreach through a collaborative network of external degree centers, course offerings at off-campus sites, and an extensive program of continuing education for personal and professional development. Opportunities for intellectual and personal development are provided through quality teaching, scholarly inquiry, creative endeavor, and service for the public good.
West Georgia educates students in a range of disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and professional programs at the baccalaureate level. It also offers a significant number of graduate programs at the master’s and educational specialist’s levels. The University has a commitment to education at the doctoral level in the fields of education, counseling, and psychology. In addition to being accredited (SACS) as an institute of higher education, the University maintains national accreditation or recognition in most undergraduate and graduate fields of specialization.
UWG enrolls more than 11,500 students, including an active international student population from more than 40 countries.
UWG currently offers 116 programs of study, including 59 bachelor’s and 42 master’s and specialist degrees, three doctorates and 12 certificates, as well as Georgia’s only Honors College.
UWG offers new, world-class student amenities such as an athletic complex and stadium, Greek Village, coliseum, and student center on a sprawling 650 acre campus in beautiful Carrollton, Georgia.
UWG offers more than 40 online courses each semester, and is the University System of Georgia administrator for the statewide collaborative eCore program.
UWG offers numerous courses and degree programs at alternate campus locations, including 7 degree programs at UWG at Newnan, and degree programs in Rome (Education and Nursing) and Dalton (Nursing).
Gifted high-school-age students can earn high school and college credit through the Advanced Academy of Georgia, one of only 15 U.S. residential college-early-entrance programs in the United States.
It has been named a Best Southeastern College by the Princeton Review for six years in a row and one of America’s Best Value Colleges for the past three years.
UWG had an economic impact of more than $409.8 million during FY 2010.
