In an effort to increase institutional participation in the University System of Georgia STEM Initiative, the System refocused the Initiative by providing support for institutions to develop and implement a campus-wide STEM Education Improvement Plan. Each institution’s plan was required to focus on one or more of the following goals:

  1. Improve STEM college readiness for P-12 students;
  2. Improve performance and retention in STEM core courses and majors; and
  3. Prepare and support P-12 STEM teachers in Georgia’s classrooms.

Fourteen institutions were awarded funding for the 2016-2017 academic year and are members of the USG STEM Network designed to share ideas, practices, and resources through development of a website and by convening as a network (regionally, statewide and nationally) to address specific STEM-related topics. Through participation in the USG STEM Network, institutions will be able to learn from one another and create a common language to describe best practices for improving STEM recruitment, retention and graduation at the post-secondary level.
