Procedures and Criteria

For students wishing to enter a program as an Academic Common Market (ACM) student, the following steps are to be followed.

  • The student must be unconditionally accepted for admission into a program for which his/her state has access through the ACM. Please note students who plan to attend Auburn University (AL); the University of Alabama; and Middle Tennessee State University must first be determined ACM-eligible prior to state certification being issued. Contact the institution for further details.

  • Complete the application for certification of Georgia residency. The application must be notarized and signed by the Judge of the Highest Court of the county where you maintain your legal residence. Call your county courthouse and ask for the Superior Court Judge and they will direct you from there.

  • Application is to be mailed via certified mail to this office, a copy of the letter of acceptance into the program from the institution must be attached. Please keep a copy of all documents being submitted for your records.

  • Once residency is determine based upon information submitted, a letter of certification will be sent to the student and a copy provided to the appropriate official at the institution. This will qualify you for a waiver of out-of-state fees.

  • All future communication from that point on will be from the institution.

For programs no longer available through the Academic Common Market, students already enrolled will be given a reasonable amount of time to complete the degree program while receiving Academic Common Market benefits.

Applications are processed in the order that they are received!
Once residency is verified;
* Applicant will receive acceptance letter in the mail.
* A copy will be provided to your College/University.
