Learning Opportunities within the University System of Georgia

Approved Blended and Complete Distance Degree Programs
University System of Georgia colleges and universities offer over 100 programs, available from a variety of USG Institutions, where at least 50 percent of a degree is available via distance learning technologies [online, video conferencing (GSAMS), video cassette, telecourse, satellite]. Includes collaborative eCore, WebMBA & WebBSIT programs. Programs generally follow a semester-based institution calendar.

Online Teacher Education Opportunities in Reading, Special Education and ESOL
University System of Georgia institutions offer a variety of add-on certifications and endorsement targeted for current and future Georgia educators. Special education, ESOL and reading certifications and endorsements are available. Programs generally follow a semester-based institution calendar.

Independent and Distance Learning
Web-based courses available year round. These self-paced courses are not dependent upon a regular semester calendar. Students typically have nine months to complete studies.

Featured online initiatives, programs and collaborations
Campus based and system-wide initiatives that offer distance education (via online, telecourse, video conferencing (GSAMS), video cassette or CD-Rom) programs and courses for special interests, work force needs, or to jump-start a college career.

Information Technology Services (ITS)

Information Technology Services (ITS) is the University System of Georgia’s (USG) central organization for technology-based services.

Georgia VIEW
The GeorgiaVIEW website contains important information about the USG’s ongoing BlackBoard Vista 8 efforts, including scheduling information and tips for faculty.

Georgia ONmyLINE provides access to a full array of online and distance education offerings from the 35 colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia.

GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning Online)
GALILEO is the award-winning virtual library of licensed, commercial databases and selected free Internet resources available to the citizens of Georgia.

GIL (GALILEO Interconnected Libraries)
GIL is the uniform library automation system used throughout the University System of Georgia libraries.

OLLC (Online Library Learning Center)
OLLC offers a series of self-paced t)utorials guiding the student through the System’s most notable library resources (GALILEO & GIL). Students can learn how to organize searches, annotate online resources, locate articles and books and services available to distance education students.

Accredited Online Colleges
A web site providing extensive information regarding accredited online colleges, risks of attending a non-accredited college, and a list of accredited colleges.

Tennessee Board of Regents eLearning Initiative
A web site devoted to mobilizing the Tennessee Board of Regents (mTBR) for the new innovations of Mobile Devices and App Technology, Social Networking, Gaming, Simulations, Virtual Worlds to increase recruiting, retention, graduation rates, and for meeting the needs of 21st Century Technological Workforce.

MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching)
A free and open resource designed primarily for faculty and students in higher education, MERLOT allows faculty to enhance instruction with a continually growing collection of online learning materials, assignments and reviews. University System of Georgia is one of 23 partners in the MERLOT project (see MERLOT Tasting Room for a description of the project). Supporting MERLOT’s faculty community, the USG sponsors faculty reviewers for eight disciplines—Business, Physics, Teacher Education, Biology, History, Music, World Languages, and Health Sciences.

Electronic Campus Initiatives
Electronic Campus Initiatives is your gateway to information about policy, programming and services supporting the South’s “electronic marketplace” for online learning-SREB’s Electronic Campus and The Teacher Center. From the ongoing efforts in the Distance Learning Policy Laboratory, the Adult Learning Campaign and Nurse Educator Project, and other information about efforts to promote online learning and the removal of barriers many learners encounter.

Georgia Virtual Technical College (GVTC)
Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG)’s schools offer certificates, diplomas or associate’s degrees online. Students can find professional and technical opportunities available through the GVTC.
