Statement Regarding Regents’ Motions On Student Residency

Atlanta — June 9, 2010

During the Board of Regents’ monthly meeting today, the topic of one agenda item was residency verification. Out of the board’s discussion, Regent Kenneth R. Bernard Jr. proposed two motions, which were approved by the Board. The two motions are:

  1. In order to reaffirm the chancellor’s directives, I move that the Board of Regents’ policy be amended to deny any waiver to the difference between resident and non-resident tuition to any person not lawfully present in the United States.

  2. In order to reaffirm the Chancellor’s directives, I move that the Board of Regents direct the chancellor to require campus review of all applications for admission for the fall semester, 2010, within 60 days of today’s date, to determine whether undocumented persons are receiving, or about to receive, a state, local or federal benefit prohibited by federal or state law.
