WHAT: A Special Called Meeting of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and a subsequent press conference to announce the naming of the new chancellor of the University System of Georgia and to introduce the chancellor-designate to the media, Board of Regents’ personnel and University System of Georgia staff.

An Executive Session meeting will be held at 11:00 a.m. At 11:15 a.m., the regents will convene in Open Session to announce the outcome of their Executive Session. The Open Session will be followed immediately by a press conference.

WHY: Since May of this year, the Board of Regents has conducted a national search to fill the position being vacated by University System of Georgia Chancellor Stephen R. Portch, who announced that he would step down from the post once his successor was named.

In accordance with the Open Meetings Acts, Board of Regents Chair Hilton H. Howell Jr. will announce the appointment of the new chancellor and formally introduce him. The chancellor-designate will make brief remarks to those assembled.

One-on-one media interviews with the finalist should be scheduled for a later time or date.
