In the time it would have taken him to complete two semesters of coursework, Justin Hargesheimer, a graduate student at Georgia State’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, built an eco-friendly schoolhouse in Guatemala from using “eco-bricks” made of discarded plastic soda bottles packed full of trash.

Impacts of Generations

LaShawnDa Pittman-Gay is a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Minority Research Fellow – the first NSF fellow in GSU’s Department of Sociology. She’s returned to Georgia State after having earned her doctorate from Northwestern University to take a new role – putting her determination into academic research to better understand African-American grandmothers who care for their grandchildren and the many complexities facing family members in such a situation.

UGA Marine Scientists

University of Georgia marine scientist Samantha Joye and UGA colleagues Patricia Medeiros and Christof Meile received a $1.3 million grant from the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative that will enable UGA researchers and scientists from 13 other institutions to study the impact of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill on the marine ecosystem.
