About Us
The Department of Academic Affairs and Policy advances academic achievement, quality, and diversity through transformative practices, partnerships, and research. The office has a wide range of responsibilities, including supporting the state’s initiatives to:
- Improve post-secondary degree attainment through Complete College Georgia,
- Expand and improve educator preparation in the state to place world-class instructors in all schools,
- Support adult, veteran, military, first generation, low-income, and underrepresented students,
- Advance degree attainment in STEM and high-demand career fields, and
- Encourage comprehensive approaches to serving academically less-prepared students
Four goals guide the work of the Department of Academic Affairs and Policy:
- Lead USG efforts to remove barriers to postsecondary education for all students and support their readiness to succeed;
- Lead USG efforts to improve retention and progression in order to increase postsecondary completion for all students;
- Foster excellence and innovation in USG educator preparation programs to produce highly effective educators to meet the needs of Georgia’s schools;
- Facilitate and strengthen collaborative partnerships to develop grants, conduct research, disseminate knowledge and practice, and inform policy.
