Board of Regents Names Augusta University

Atlanta — September 15, 2015

Today, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia renamed Georgia Regents University as Augusta University.

Board of Regents Chair Neil Pruitt highlighted the new name saying, “Today’s Board action supports the long-term strategic direction of the institution and builds on our partnership with the Augusta community. This is an exciting time for the new Augusta University, and we see tremendous opportunity for growth and development of this university as a world-class research institution and a top 50 medical school in the nation.”

University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby recognized the momentum of the institution saying, “The new name Augusta University builds on the momentum we have with President Brooks Keel’s leadership. We are committed to the long-term success of this institution and appreciate the support of the Augusta community.”

The research institution’s name change to Augusta University is effective immediately.
