Biomedical Waste

Biomedical waste is regulated under the Georgia Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Act (the Act). The Rules for Solid Waste Management are included in Chapter 391-3-4 with biomedical waste addressed in Rule .15.

Biomedical waste shall mean and include the following:

  • Pathological waste
  • Biological waste
  • Cultures and stocks of infectious agents
  • Contaminated animal carcasses, body parts, etc.
  • Sharps
  • Chemotherapy waste
  • Discarded medical equipment and parts
