College Credit Opportunities for High School Students

Information for Students

There are a number of opportunities for you to earn college credit prior to your high school graduation, including AP, IB, and dual enrollment. These opportunities can bring additional rigor to your high school curriculum and can save you time (and money!) when you complete some of your college degree requirements while you are still in high school.

Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment provides students the opportunity to take college courses while still in high school. Typically, dual enrollment students take a college course (or courses) on the campus of a college or university located in or near their community. In some instances, students may be able to take online college courses or college courses offered on their high school campus. Depending on their high school schedule, remaining graduation requirements, and other considerations, some dual enrollment students are able to attend college full-time. Georgia’s Dual Enrollment program allows eligible high school students to take approved college courses at little or no cost.

Each University System of Georgia (USG) college and university has established requirements and deadlines for students to participate in their dual enrollment program. Interested students should speak with their high school counselor and the Dual Enrollment Coordinator at their USG college or university of interest to discuss their options. Students are encouraged to have these conversations as early as possible as there are important deadlines that must be met.
