Distance learning in the 21st century takes on new relevance and context as more and more public and private higher education institutions offer online and hybrid courses and programs. This presentation will cover the basics of how online education is conducted, existing standards and models for online education, and the technologies used to enable conventional distance learning models as well as newer models, such as Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are engaged. Auditors will gain from this presentation by becoming more informed on best practices, quality standards and initiatives, and future directions in distance learning.
