Some say technology is taking over the world. While that isn't quite true, it certainly is having a pervasive impact on higher education - which prompted the Board of Regents to tackle technology with a strategic planning process.
A major priority of the Systemwide master plan is bolstering PeachNet - the computer network that connects the University System's 34 colleges and universities, as well as several other educational state agencies.
Clearly identifying existing demands on the University System's technology infrastructure and determining ways to meet future demands effectively were key goals of the planning process. The effort resulted in an ambitious Technology Master Plan for the System, prepared by Arthur Andersen LLP, which will require millions of dollars in special funding to implement over the next several years. The document provides specific recommendations on how to use technology more effectively to enhance the University System and the state's massive educational technology infrastructure.
