USG Breast Cancer Awareness Events 2011

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition Fund, more than 6,000 women in Georgia are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. A number of University System of Georgia (USG) colleges and universities are doing their part to help increase public awareness of this disease.

These efforts include partnerships with the community, between students and staff and local corporations and businesses. Such efforts help educate and prepare students to take a participatory role in society through the sharing of their time and skills. This is what Chancellor Hank Huckaby means when he talks about the values that college helps to instill in students, values that go far beyond simply preparing someone for a specific job or career.
