Lisa Rossbacher Named to Lead USG Risk Management Effort

On November 8, University System of Georgia (USG) Chancellor Erroll B. Davis Jr. announced that Dr. Lisa Rossbacher, president of Southern Polytechnic State University, will lead a new presidential task force charged with rolling out to all 35 USG institutions an “enterprise risk management” program.

The program is designed to help USG employees in ongoing efforts to identify areas of potential risk in various operations and to develop means of reducing or managing these risks so that they do not develop into problems or issues.

“Effective implementation of the risk management policy at our institutions demands extensive and thoughtful involvement and leadership,” said Davis. “To that end, I have asked President Rossbacher to lead this presidential task force.”

The University System’s efforts in formal enterprise risk management began with pilot programs at Armstrong Atlantic State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University System Office with the support of the USG Office of Internal Audit and Compliance.

The results of these pilots were used to develop a risk management policy that was adopted by the Board of Regents at its August 2010 meeting.

The new task force will be made up of a broad representation from across the University System and will be charged with developing procedures and guidance for use by USG institutions in implementing the Risk Management Policy. “Our goal is to foster a culture of developing and following excellent enterprise risk management practices throughout the University System,” said Davis.

Since becoming chancellor in 2006, Davis has appointed a number of USG presidents to lead various task forces to deal with System-wide issues and challenges, including campus emergency planning, energy use, and leadership development.
