What Faculty in Pilot Group are Saying About Vista 8

Faculty are already reporting innovative ways to use the features in Vista 8 to reach their students:

  • Christopher Bloss, who teaches English at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) uses the Web Links tool to show his students how to analyze the value of web content. Bloss’ students are now “engaged in collecting and analyzing their own material, making value judgments, and reporting on them,” he notes.

  • Susan Bleyle, who also teaches English at GGC, uses the Vista 8 Grading Forms tool so her students know exactly how they will be graded on assignments.

*Both Bleyle and Phyllis Snipes, who teaches media and instructional technology at the University of West Georgia, use the Student Blog to facilitate student communications and feedback. Bleyle comments, “Now, my students look forward to writing for their peers as well as for me, and they seem to eagerly engage with one another on the Vista 8 blog board.”

Additional features that faculty are implementing include the Goals Tool, which students use to align goals and outcomes to course assignments, and the Peer Review tool that facilitates student interaction.

From Fall 2006 through Fall 2008, the number of faculty and staff using Vista rose from 145,000 to 220,000. The number of course sections in Vista has also risen dramatically every fall – from 0 in 2003 to 18,000 in 2008.
