Regents Honor Nation’s Top Cadet –NGCSU Senior Earl Porter

The Army ranked 4,417 students in more than 270 Army ROTC programs across the country in terms of academics, physical fitness and performance on the Army’s Leadership Development Assessment Course. Porter, a criminal justice major with a 3.93 overall GPA and 4.0 ROTC GPA who spent part of last summer studying the culture and history of the Soviet Union in St. Petersburg, Russia, and supervises 97 underclassmen as commander of Foxtrot Company, landed on top of the heap.

In introducing Porter to the regents, Chancellor Erroll B. Davis Jr. noted that the cadet didn’t think of himself as college material while in high school, but became the first member of his family to attend college when he landed an ROTC scholarship. “This young man, who plans to commission into the Army as a second lieutenant following graduation, has proven that he is not only college material but is truly a leader,” Davis said.
