KSU Eases Veteran Transition to College

Kennsesaw State University, a member of Soldiers 2 Scholars, the USG Military Outreach Consortium was featured recently on Fox 5 TV’s Good Day Atlanta. Considering Teaching after a Military Career?

Southern Polytechnic State University has been awarded approximately $1.4 million in Race to the Top funding to establish a math and science teacher preparation program. SPSU is one of three universities in Georgia awarded the grant through a competitive process from the U.S. Department of Education. The other universities are the University of West Georgia and Columbus State University, the governor’s office recently announced.


Get More Bang for Your Buck at Bainbridge College!

Stretch your money further at Bainbridge College (BC) They were recently named by the U.S. Department of Education as one of the top 100 public, two-year colleges on its list of Lowest Net Cost of Attendance. BC is one of only two Georgia institutions of higher education named in that category. BC’s annual average net cost of $3,376 falls well below the national average for public, two-year colleges that was reported as $6,780.


News from Troops Around the USG

FORT VALLEY – Fort Valley State University is making it easier for students with military experience to trade in their combat boots for classroom textbooks, thanks to a new Military Resource Center that opened its doors recently. The Military Resource Center includes a lounge with computers at the university’s Hubbard Education Building. Staff will help guide military students through registration, enrollment, financial aid etc. as well as provide students a place to connect with others with military backgrounds.

STATESBORO – Military personnel interested in a masters degree in computer science will be interested to know Georgia Southern University’s Online Master of Science in Computer Science has been ranked as one of the top ten “best buys” in the country by the education web site GetEducated.com, a consumer group that rates ranks and verifies the cost and credibility of online colleges and online universities. GetEducated.com ranked Georgia Southern University’s program ninth in the nation, out of 140 schools that were surveyed. Thanks to B. Nolen for sharing the good news.

DECATUR – Georgia Perimeter Colleges is the most recent USG institution to be named to the GI JOBs national ranking of military friendly colleges. More than 8000 colleges and universities were surveyed to determine the most military friendly institutions in the country.

COLUMBUS - Columbus State University recently held two days of presentations and workshops as part of their 2011 Learning and Technology Symposium, sponsored jointly with Ft. Benning’s Maneuver Center of Excellence.
