Meeting Minutes: Counseling Directors Association

Spring 1999 Meeting Report

First, the Counseling Directors Association (CDA) would like to express its sincere appreciation for the manifest support from the members of RASCSA. The Standards for Counseling Centers that were endorsed by RASCA have had far reaching impact. As our Standards were being developed, members of CDA worked with members of the International Association of Counseling Services. IACS members have also reflected that our Standards were utilized as IACS standards were being revised. In addition, we have learned that the counseling center organization in Canada is utilizing our Standards as they develop national standards for their own centers. It is extremely encouraging to see that the effort of directors within our own system had had impact upon both national and now international organizations that relate to accrediting counseling centers.

The primary agenda items for our Spring meeting included revising proposed plans for site visits where CDA directors would review operations of counseling centers within the University System, establishing accurate job descriptions within the University System for licensed counselors and psychologists, revision of the CDA bylaws, and the election of a new CDA chair. The current proposal for site visits, using the criteria established in the Standards for Counseling Centers in the University System of Georgia, would consist of:

  1. The director of the center that is being reviewed would submit a self- report based upon how well the center met the criteria in the Standards.
  2. The self-report would be reviewed by two other system directors who had been selected to conduct the site visit.
  3. The site visitors would subsequently conduct a one day site cisit guided by their review of the self report.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dr. Joy D. Evans
Chairperson
