Challenge

The USG will prepare students to function successfully in a global society.

Action

Integrate international education throughout the curriculum at all levels and across disciplines. Increase student and faculty knowledge, functioning skills, and attitudes about other countries and cultures.

Activities for Implementation

  1. Establish institutional guidelines for international education.
  2. Increase by 25% undergraduate degrees to students who study abroad.
  3. Increase to 10% of enrollment non- U.S. citizens enrolled in USG institutions.
  4. Increase by 50% students earning undergraduate degrees in foreign languages.
  5. Increase by 10% students earning degrees in international studies and related fields.
  6. Increase by 10% faculty and staff who have international expertise and experience.
  7. Engage faculty/ curriculum development projects, such as AASCU's Seven Revolutions (7R).

Baseline Measure

  • USG study-abroad participation currently equals 21% of baccalaureate graduates.
  • The proportion of non-U.S. citizens enrolled in USG institutions is currently 8%.
  • The number of students earning undergraduate degrees in foreign languages each year is about 300.
  • Students earning degrees in international studies and related programs number about 300.
  • Percentage of USG faculty staff with international experience is estimated at 15%.
