Congratulations: Georgia Principal Named Middle School Principal of the Year
Laurie Barron, principal of Smokey Road Middle School in Newnan, GA, has been named the 2013 MetLife/NASSP National Middle Level Principal of the Year. Ms. Barron received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and her Masters degree from the University West Georgia.

Apple Publishes Georgia College Digital Textbook
Nine students of Dr. Chris Greer’s Advanced Technology for Teachers course have produced an electronic textbook titled “Using Technology in Education,” — one of the first publications created by students and published through Apple iBookstore.

Ph.D. Students Awarded International Scholarships
Two students in Kennesaw State University’s Ph.D. program in International Conflict Management have been awarded scholarships to study and conduct research at Edinburgh University in Scotland and at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Germany.

Slash-and-Burn Source of Oceanic Black Carbon
A Skidaway Institute of Oceanography researcher estimates slash-and-burn land clearing in Brazil has introduced tens of thousands of tons of black carbon to the ocean.
