Gainesville State’s Amy Broome earned Elizabeth Baumgardner Peacemaker Award for mediation and advocacy, demonstrating superior talent at all phases of the competition with the highest combined scores during mediation tournament.

GT, UGA, Emory and CDC Partner for Malaria Research
The National Institutes of Health has awarded a five-year contract of up to $19.4 million to establish the Malaria Host-Pathogen Interaction Center. The consortium includes researchers at Emory University, with partners at the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

UGA Student Awarded Rhodes Scholarship
Honors student Juliet Elizabeth Allan of Atlanta has been awarded a 2013 Rhodes Scholarship to attend England’s Oxford University.

Georgia Tech Alumna Named Rhodes Scholar.
Joy Buolamwini has been named a Rhodes scholar. She will attend the University of Oxford, where she plans to pursue degrees in African studies and global governance and diplomacy.

$2.1 Million Gift to Corps of Cadets
Retired Army Colonel Jack Peevy, of Alpharetta, Ga., has committed $2.1 million to support the Corps of Cadets at North Georgia College & State University. His pledge is the largest private gift made in support of the university’s Corps of Cadets.
