Students, Administrators From Across Georgia To Discuss Student Fees Policy & Co-Curricular Transcripts

Chancellor Portch has formed two work groups composed of Student Leaders, College Administrators, and University System Officials to discuss two recent SAC proposals. The first is a proposal to allow students at least 50% representation on committees which budget mandatory student fees, including athletic, parking, and technology fees collected from each student. Currently, students have this type of representation only when it comes to the student activity fees. The second work group will discuss the students' proposal to implement a co-curricular transcript at all institutions of the University System. Co-curricular transcripts supplement the academic transcript and document all leadership and learning experiences outside the classroom. Co-curricular transcripts are already used at several system institutions including Georgia Tech, Armstrong Atlantic, and Gainesville College, with programs to begin soon at UGA and Georgia Perimeter College.

Students Gearing Up For Legislative Session, Presidential Primaries

Georgia's Student Leaders are preparing for the upcoming session of the Georgia General Assembly, which begins in January. Students will lobby legislators from across the state on a variety of issues, including funding for the University System and the students' proposal to eliminate the state sales tax on the sale of textbooks. SAC has also declared February "Voter Awareness Month" and students will host voter registration drives and political forums on campuses across the state in an attempt to increase student participation in the coming elections.
