Student Advisory Council To Meet March 31-April 2 In Milledgeville
March 27, 2000 (Atlanta) - The Student Advisory Council to the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (SAC) will host its annual Spring Conference March 31 through April 2 on the campus of Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. Delegates from Georgia's 34 public colleges and universities will begin arriving in Milledgeville on Friday afternoon and meeting at GC&SU through Sunday.
SAC is the official representative body of the more than 200,000 students in the University System of Georgia and makes recommendations on behalf of the students to the Board of Regents and the State Legislature. SAC consists of the student body president or appointed delegate from each of the 34 colleges and universities as well as up to five representatives from each institution. Full Conferences are held three times yearly and President's Conferences are held twice yearly to discuss issues of statewide importance to college students.
Key events planned for this weekend include the election of SAC officers for the next year and a banquet Saturday evening at 7:30 PM at the Centennial Center featuring keynote speaker U.S. Representative Charlie Norwood.
Issues expected to be discussed during regular business meetings over the weekend include possible changes in the internal structure and funding mechanism of SAC, student control of mandatory fees, computerization of the Regent's Test, deferred payment of tuition, and the HOPE scholarship program.
More information regarding this conference, including directions and conference agenda can be obtained by visiting the SAC web site (www.peachnet.edu/sac) and clicking "upcoming conferences."
Founded in 1968, The Student Advisory Council is one of the oldest and largest student organizations in the United States, representing over 200,000 students throughout Georgia.
