STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS TO MEET AT KENNESAW STATE UNIVERSITY THIS WEEKEND.
January 19, 2000 (Kennesaw, GA) - The Student Advisory Council to the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (SAC) will host its annual Winter President's Conference January 21 through January 23 on the campus of Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw. Delegates from Georgia's 34 public colleges and universities will begin arriving in Kennesaw on Friday afternoon and meeting at KSU through Sunday.
SAC is the official representative body of the more than 200,000 students in the University System of Georgia and makes recommendations on behalf of the students to the Board of Regents and the State Legislature. SAC consists of the student body president or appointed delegate from each of the 34 colleges and universities as well as up to five representatives from each institution. Full Conferences are held three times yearly and President's Conferences are held twice yearly to discuss issues of statewide importance to college students.
The key event planned for this weekend include a meeting with University System Chancellor Stephen Portch and Board of Regents staff members to be held at the Jolley Lodge on the KSU campus Friday at 2 PM.
Issues expected to be discussed during regular business meetings Saturday and Sunday include the SAC legislative agenda, student control of mandatory fees, computerization of the Regent's Test, deferred payment of tuition, and the HOPE scholarship program.
Founded in 1968, The Student Advisory Council is one of the oldest and largest student organizations in the United States, representing over 200,000 students throughout Georgia.
