General Information

The 42nd Annual Computing Conference will be held October 23 - 25, 2013 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton Georgia. Rock Eagle 4-H Center is located between Eatonton and Madison on Highway 441. Facilities include cottages, buildings for meetings and display, two recreation fields, a nature trail, a trading post, a miniature golf course, and a 110-acre lake with fishing and boating available for public use. Attending the Rock Eagle Conference has become a tradition for many staff and faculty because of the unique environment, the timely, leading edge sessions, state-of-the-art exhibitors, and the many social opportunities.

Who Should Attend:

The conference provides the opportunity for technology professionals and technology users throughout the System to exchange information with their peers and gain an accurate picture of the current and future state of technology.

What to Expect:

Nestled in the pines of the Oconee National Forest, Rock Eagle 4-H Center provides a natural retreat atmosphere for conferences. Information Technology Services (ITS) reserves the entire campground for the USG Annual Computing Conference.

Lodging:

There are 52 cottages for lodging, each having three sleeping rooms; 2 of those rooms have 4 bunk beds each and the third room, called a counselors room, has two single beds. The cottages sleep 18 and include a main living room type area. We assign only the lower bunks for the conference (4 per room). Cabins are assigned as either male or female. There is a community bathroom connected to each room. Cabin assignments are printed on the back of name badges. Upon arrival, go directly to the registration area for your cabin assignment. There are no televisions, radios or clocks in the rooms - it truly is a rustic environment.

What to Bring:

Bed sheets, a pillow, and 1 blanket are provided and while they are clean, they are usually small and old. We would recommend that you bring a sheet set, a blanket and a pillow. Towels are also provided but they too are small; bring 1 - 2 towels. You may also want to bring an alarm clock.

Conference Attire:

This is a very casual environment! General mode of clothing is shorts, jeans or khakis. The weather is unpredictable! While we have been lucky relative to rain, it is wise to be prepared. The meeting rooms are spread out so you will be doing a lot of walking. Boots, an umbrella, and dry clothes can be very handy if it does rain! The temperature in general is very nice that time of year during the day but it does get cold in the evening.
