Kennesaw State University (KSU) adheres to Policy 912 of the Board of Regents (BOR) of the University System of Georgia (USG).
KSU maintains a Gift Acceptance Committee and a Gift Acceptance Policy as a standards guide in accepting all major and/or unusual gifts. The policy delineates between a gift, a contract and a sponsorship. Gifts are received by the foundation. Government contracts and contracts-for-service are only received by the University and/or the University Research Foundation.
The Gift Acceptance Committee of the KSU Foundation reviews all major contributions, especially any gifts where a naming opportunity, and/or a specific request or expectation by the contributor may be concerned. The Gift Acceptance Committee includes at least three volunteer trustees, the Executive Director of KSU Foundation, Vice President of University Advancement, Assistant Vice President for Development & Foundation Programs, and other KSU staff members who may be participating in the solicitation process.
After reviewing a particular gift in question, the Gift Acceptance Committee makes a recommendation to the President’s Cabinet. It is the prerogative of the President’s Cabinet to approve or disapprove of a particular gift acceptance and naming opportunity. If the naming opportunity requires a BOR approval, the President of KSU would then submit a letter to the Chancellor requesting approval.
All building/facility naming opportunities must comply with the naming standards established on the KSU campus. Letter size, style, colors, and use of logo must comply with established standards for naming (Standards samples attached).
Signage on campus adheres to BOR Policies 908.3 and 917.
Facilities may be named by contributors making gifts of cash and securities. No planned gifts (re: estate gifts, bequests, trusts, etc.) will be accepted for naming opportunities, unless the institution elects to name a building or program after such a gift has been received. Multi-year pledges of cash and/or securities are acceptable for naming opportunities.
All contributions for endowed scholarships, naming of buildings and/or programs, or other recognition-level appropriate gifts require a Gift Agreement signed by the contributor, the President of the Institution, and Executive Director of the KSU Foundation (Sample Gift Agreements attached).
A “named building” exists through the life of the building. In other words, if a building becomes obsolete and the university determines that a new building should be constructed for the same purpose; the name of the building is not transfered to the new building.
The Gift Acceptance Committee and/or the President& Cabinet of the University may consider a naming opportunity for “meritorious service” to the university. In such a case, a monetary contribution may not be part of the consideration. However, BOR policy 912 would remain in effect in that a two year separation of employment must first be met before a naming event occurred.
The university retains the right of name removal, in the event of non-payment of a contribution or multi-year pledge and/or conduct by the contributor deemed as “unbecoming” of a public figure.
The President of the university hosts a “President’s Club” recognition dinner each year for contributors of $1,000 or more.
Contributors who make gifts of $25,000 or more receive personal invitation to a private luncheon or dinner with the president.
Recognition of gift “club” levels are on display in appropriate settings across campus:
