Georgia Perimeter College Naming Guidelines

Recognizing a significant opportunity to honor donors and contributors to Georgia Perimeter College, the College may name buildings, rooms, spaces, or other properties for individuals or groups that have made significant contributions. These honors may be bestowed for either personal or financial contribution. These actions are pursuant to Board of Regents Policy # 912.

Financial opportunities are as follows

  • Capital Construction — New Facilities -- 40% of estimated cost
  • Naming of Existing Building Facilities -- $1,000,000 minimum
  • Renovations -- 40% of estimated cost
  • Auditoriums and similar spaces -- $100,000 minimum
  • Classrooms -- $50,000 minimum
  • Plazas, Gardens, etc -- $25,000 minimum

Deferred gifts may also be considered as a criteria for naming opportunities. In order for consideration, the deferred gift must be irrevocable.

In the event of a naming opportunity, The Chief Advancement Officer shall create and chair a committee consisting of representatives from the following categories: Student Government, Faculty Senate, Alumni, Administration, and the Department that resides in the property under consideration. The Chair also has the discretion to add other interested parties to the naming committee as deemed appropriate. The committee shall make recommendations to the President. The President is the final arbiter of all decisions regarding naming. Interior spaces may be named as well. The approval of proposed names for those spaces is delegated to the President.

Recognition signage shall be consistent with the Institutional Master plan as well as comply with Board of Regents Policies 908.3 and 917.

Once a building or other property is named, that name shall remain only through the useful life of that property.

Board of Regents approval is required for the naming of buildings, streets, and other identifiable areas of the campus. The Board of Regents and the Chancellor shall be notified at the earliest possible date of any recognition ceremony related to this policy.

The policy on the naming of facilities shall be reviewed every five years. The review and recommendations are the responsibility of the Chief Advancement Officer of the Institution.
