Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Naming Guidelines
Policy on Naming Buildings, Facilities, and Outdoor Areas
To acknowledge and honor exemplary support or service to the institution, the President of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College may elect to name a building or other type of outdoor facility for a person, group, or organization. In order to be eligible for this honor, one or more of the following criteria must be met:
- Substantial and significant contribution to the mission of the College in the areas of service, teaching, and scholarship.
- Significant financial or in-kind contributions to College. Facilities-naming opportunities correspond to the following levels of financial contribution:
New Facilities: 30% of estimated cost Existing Buildings: $1,000,000 or more Support for Renovations: 30% of estimated cost Interior spaces (classrooms, etc): $10,000 minimum Outdoor areas: $10,000 minimum In all cases, a minimum of 60% of the minimum financial contribution listed above must be in possession of the college prior to the President's recommendation to the Board of Regents for naming of the facility. Also, all deferred gifts are irrevocable.
- A building or facility can be named for a public servant only after that person has been disassociated from state or federal employment for at least two years prior to the naming. In the case of a deceased public servant, the two-year waiting period may be waived.
If the above criteria have been met, the institutional Facilities Naming Committee will consider proposals and recommend to the President the naming of campus facilities. The President is the final arbiter of all naming decisions at the campus level. The President may then recommend to the Board of Regents that the building or facility be named for the honoree. The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia is the final authority for approval for the naming of any buildings, facilities, or outdoor areas. Once the naming recommendation is approved by the Board of Regents, the Chancellor and the Board of Regents will be notified of the time and date for any recognition ceremonies.
All signage for named facilities will be in accordance with BOR Policies 908.3, 910, and 917, as well as the college's Master Plan.
In certain cases, it may be necessary that a building or facility be de-named. In the event of failure to honor financial commitments or upholding the high standards of the University System of Georgia, or other appropriate reasons, the College retains the right to remove the name from any building or facility.
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's Policy on Buildings, Facilities, and Outdoor Areas will be reviewed for every five years.
