Welcome to the Office of P-16 Initiatives

Welcome to the Pre-school through College (P-16) Department of the University System of Georgia. Our Department was created in 1995 by Board of Regents policy to coordinate the participation of the University System in state and local P-16 initiatives. The mission of the P-16 Department within the University System of Georgia corresponds with the focus of P-16 work in Georgia--to promote the successful progression of students through the educational systems from pre-school through college; and to prepare, induct, and support a sufficient number of high quality and ethnically diverse educators who in turn are able to help all public school students meet the successive thresholds of readiness necessary to progress successfully through the P-16 educational systems.
All P-16 work is collaborative. Core in-state partners of the University System of Georgia include the Governor's Office, Office of Student Achievement, Department of Education, Technical College System of Georgia, Department of Early Care and Learning, Professional Standards Commission, Georgia Student Finance Commission, Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, Communities in Schools, and local business, education, and community leaders.
Leadership for P-16 work in Georgia is shared among the core partners. The mission of each core partner largely determines which agency or organization will take the lead on each initiative.
P-16 work described on this website represents those initiatives for which the University System of Georgia assumes the lead role. We invite you to browse our work and to link with that of some of our partners.
