Integrated Learning Environment

Vision

The USG IIT vision, to enable Learning Without Limits through effective, innovative technologies and services, clearly and directly supports the USG vision of Creating A More Educated Georgia prepared for a global, technological society through first-rate undergraduate and graduate education, research, and public service.

Mission

In turn, the USG IIT mission is to deliver comprehensive technology resources, services, and solutions to USG students, faculty, staff, and Georgia residents and to provide System-wide leadership through dynamic policies and practices, accountability, and stewardship of resources. The population served includes approximately 270,000 students, nearly 42,000 System employees, and more than 9,350,000 state residents.

The Integrated Learning Environment

OIIT is the USG’s leadership resource for academic and administrative technology support and services that supports the USG mission, creates the Integrated Learning Environment, and improves the quality of services to students, faculty and staff, and state residents. OIIT provides comprehensive support and services that bridge applications and work together to serve our customers, students, faculty, staff and state residents. Our objective is to build and sustain an Integrated Learning Environment (ILE) in which instructional and administrative applications interface and coordinate seamlessly within the USG.

The Integrated Learning Environment depends upon a tightly coupled, stable, reliable, secure infrastructure, enterprise technologies, and services. Building and supporting that critical framework successfully is OIIT's objective. Some of the elements of the Integrated Learning Environment and their inter-relationships are illustrated by a honeycomb.

ILE Honeycomb

The graphic illustrates some of the instructional and administrative functions and technologies that must work together seamlessly in the USG’s Integrated Learning Environment (ILE).

  • Students must be recruited, admitted, and registered; they need access to books, e-mail, and the Internet; they must be able to take courses at multiple USG institutions and receive transcripts.
  • Students must receive financial aid and pay tuition, parking, and housing bills.
  • Faculty and staff must have technological tools to teach, conduct research, and provide services.
  • Those with visual, auditory, or motor impairments need full access to all online educational opportunities.
  • Data for informed decision making and reporting must be collected.
  • Technologies for learning in the classroom and online, and for accessing library resources and student services throughout the state from anywhere must be robust, reliable, and secure.
  • Faculty and staff must be compensated and receive benefits.
