About OIIT
OIIT delivers comprehensive technology resources, services, and solutions to University System of Georgia (USG) students, faculty, staff, and Georgia residents and provides System-wide leadership through dynamic policies and practices, accountability, collaboration with institutions, and stewardship of resources. The population served includes approximately 270,000 students, nearly 42,000 System employees, and more than 9,350,000 state residents.
- OIIT evaluates and promotes innovations in technologies that improve instruction in the classroom and at a distance, increase access to higher education, and broaden student opportunities.
- Other technologies facilitate research, collaboration, and communication among students, faculty, administrators, and researchers.
- Still others address administrative needs for academic information, student services, reporting for making decisions, and regulatory requirements.
All have an impact on the intellectual capital and services of the USG that are essential resources for Georgia agriculture, business, government, and schools to solve problems and create opportunities for growth.
OIIT focuses on secure, reliable, high-quality applications and infrastructure services. OIIT achieves economies of scale and efficiency by negotiating System-wide contracts for hardware, software, maintenance, and support costs and by leveraging resources across the System. By providing services across the USG, OIIT provides higher baseline levels of service than some individual institutions can achieve independently (e.g., fiber acquisition, application life-cycle support), including some services not individually obtainable at all (e.g., PeachNet).
