Georgia Tech's Well-Engineered Engagement with the World
Georgia Tech's International Plan continues to receive national recognition for its excellence and innovation. NAFSA's "Internationalizing the Campus 2007" highlights Georgia Tech as one of four universities selected for the 2007 Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization.

Kennesaw State University Selected for Georgia's Second Confucius Institute
Kennesaw has been selected as the second Georgia site for a Confucius Institute, and so joins a worldwide network of educational centers funded by the Chinese government to promote China's language and culture. Kennesaw will offer language classes and cultural activities for students, professionals, and community residents at the Institute.

29 French students and eight professors visit Georgia Southwestern State University
Georgia Southwestern spent the last week hosting 29 college students and eight professors from Lycee Blaise Pascal in Forbach, France. GSW and Lycee Blaise Pascal have been exchanging students and faculty members since 1995.

The Lycee Blaise Pascal faculty representatives met with Americus Mayor Barry Blount who agreed with the idea presented by Forbach's mayor, requesting that Americus and Forbach become
"sister cities."

GSW Professor Michael Fathi recognized for internationalization efforts
"If we want to understand other cultures and trade with different nations, we should send our educators all over the world to bridge connections and create bonds." (GSW Business Professor Michael Fathi)

The Georgia Consortium for International Studies presented Michael Fathi with the Senior Faculty Internationalization Award in recognition of his internationalization efforts. Fathi was chosen on the basis of his ability to promote greater international understanding and knowledge through lectures, programs, or other activities on campus or in the community.

Georgia College Receives Grant to Globalize its Majors
Georgia College & State University recently received a $60,000 grant to further internationalize its curriculum. In addition to globalizing its majors, GCSU is working to send more students abroad and attract more international students. The grant was awarded through the Board of Regents Office of International Education. Some departments have already begun incorporating global perspectives into their curricula.

NGCSU Professor awarded Fulbright grant
Eric Link, an English professor at North Georgia College & State University, has been awarded a Fulbright grant and will travel to Ukraine in April to teach a seminar on American Literature and consult with faculty on issues of program and curricular development. Link's grant is part of the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program that focuses on activities that go beyond traditional lecturing and research responsibilities.

It's the "Year of Turkey" at Kennesaw State University
The Year of Turkey" marks KSU's 24th anniversary for focusing on a foreign country. Akanmu Adebayo, Executive Director of the university's Institute for Global Initiatives, traveled to Turkey in preparation for this year and met with top officials in Istanbul who agreed to visit and speak at KSU. He was particularly pleased with his visit with the Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists of Turkey, which is exploring the opportunity of working with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce to co-host a conference underscoring investment opportunities in Turkey.

KSU Professor goes to Japan as a Drake Guest Professor
Ed Chan, an English professor and the co-director of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program at KSU, was selected for the endowed Drake Guest Professor in Comparative Literature at Kobe College in Japan. Chan will explore cultural exchanges between Japan and the U.S. through gauging students' perceptions of selected cartoons, film, literature, and other media.
