2005-2006 Select Charge to the Council

University System of Georgia
Council on International Education

The Council is charged this year to give primary attention to the strengthening of collaborations among the international programs and activities of the 34 constituent institutions of the University System of Georgia. Specifically, the individual members of the Council who represent those institutions are asked to complete the following assignments:

  • Improve intra-institutional communications about USG international education programs, policies, and procedures, so that all members of the campus community (students, faculty, and staff) are aware of the many international opportunities and support services available to them;
  • Strengthen participation in the Council’s three open-membership committees (study abroad, international students & scholars, and faculty & curriculum) by encouraging appropriate members of the campus community to engage in the discussions, meetings, and actions of each group;
  • Strengthen participation in the System’s four World Regional Councils by appointing an institutional representative to each group, as appropriate, and encouraging any interested faculty and staff to engage in their discussions, meetings, and actions;
  • Identify opportunities to improve collaboration through the sharing of visiting international faculty resources and through joint recruitment and enrollment of students in study abroad programs, and to request mini-grants from the appropriate SCIE committees to facilitate these collaborations.

Membership on the System Council on International Education also carries the following administrative responsibilities:

  • Serve as a designated institutional officer for review and authorization of all campus applications to funding programs and other competitions sponsored by the Board of Regents Office of International Education (e.g., Chancellor’s awards, Global Partnership and other grants, Best Practices awards, etc.);
  • Manage institutional participation in the STudents Abroad with Regents Support (STARS) funding programs;
  • Report the institution’s annual study abroad participation data to the Board of Regents Office of International Education.
