Committee on Faculty & Curriculum
Chair: Debra Denzerr
Georgia Perimeter College
The Committee on Faculty and Curriculum is open to all faculty and instructional staff in the University System of Georgia who teach in any subject area with an international dimension. This multidisciplinary international curriculum is broadly defined and includes, but is not limited to, area studies and foreign languages, as well as any coursework that significantly contributes to global competencies. The Committee is chaired by a member of the System Council on International Education, who reports on the Committee's activities and places Committee recommendations before the Council for action.
The Committee is encouraged to consider any issue relating to the internationalized curriculum and those who teach it. For 2007-2008 the Committee is given a select charge to complete the following assignments:
- Build an active participatory membership of campus faculty and instructional staff with international interests and expertise, facilitating communication and providing a useful forum where issues of common concern can be shared, discussed, and resolved;
- Review nominations and select recipients of Chancellor's Awards for 2008 summer faculty development seminars to Africa and Europe, in accordance with revised criteria and procedures adopted by the System Council on International Education in March 2004;
- Provide consultation and recommendations to the Office of International Education in the development and review of proposed 2009 summer faculty development seminars to Asia and the Americas, in accordance with criteria and procedures adopted by the System Council on International Education in March 2004;
- Survey, review and recommend base-line global competencies expected of USG graduates at the associate and bachelor degree levels and promote strategies for faculty and curriculum development that will ensure the infusion of these competencies in the collegiate experience.
