World Regional Council for Europe

The World Regional Council for Europe (Europe Council) is open to all faculty and staff in the University System of Georgia who have a professional interest in the countries of the region. It seeks to build an active participatory membership of campus faculty and staff with European interests and expertise, facilitating communication and providing a useful forum where issues of common concern can be shared, discussed, and resolved.
The WRC is encouraged to consider any issue relating to its region. For 2005-2006 the WRC-Europe is given a select charge to complete the following assignments:
- Operate summer study abroad programs in London, Paris, St. Petersburg, Madrid, and Schwäbisch-Gmünd (Germany), and support affiliated collaborative programs in Italy and Greece;
- Implement a faculty development seminar to Denmark and Sweden in summer 2006 in accordance with guidelines and procedures of the SCIE Faculty and Curriculum Committee;
- Implement a seminar abroad for USG senior academic administrators in summer 2006 to help educate them about USG international programs and about higher education systems in other countries;
- Provide a report on Council activities at each meeting of the System Council on International Education;
- Submit by December 1, 2005, a detailed financial report to the System Council on International Education for all funds managed by the WRC;
- Adopt a mission statement and by-laws modeled on those developed for World Regional Councils by the System Council on International Education;
- Continue discussion of on-going issues relevant to the WRC and its members,
including:
- the status and viability of the multi-institutional student exchange program with the University of Northumbria (U.K.);
- student enrollment in the European Union Studies Certificate program;
- student enrollment in the USG’s on-line courses in Russian language;
- communication with European nation consulates, bi-lateral chambers of commerce, and similar resources, and assessment of the WRC’s capacity for maintaining such networks.
