The World Regional Council for Europe (European Council) is open to all faculty and staff in the University System of Georgia who have a professional interest in the countries of the region.

The WRC is encouraged to consider any issue relating to its region. For 2004-2005 the WRC-Europe is given a select charge to complete the following assignments:

  • Build an active participatory membership of campus faculty and staff with European interests and expertise, facilitating communication and providing a useful forum where issues of common concern can be shared, discussed, and resolved;
  • Explore avenues for communication with European nation consulates, bi-lateral chambers of commerce, and similar resources, and assess the WRC’s capacity for maintaining such networks;
  • Operate summer study abroad programs in London, Paris, St. Petersburg (Russia), Madrid, and Schwäbisch-Gmünd (Germany);
  • Prepare a proposal for a faculty development seminar for summer 2006 in accordance with guidelines and procedures of the SCIE Faculty and Curriculum Committee;
  • Serve as the lead organization (in association with the other WRCs and the SCIE Faculty and Curriculum Committee) in the development of a seminar abroad for USG senior academic administrators to help educate them about USG international programs and about higher education systems in other countries;
  • Review the status and viability of the multi-institutional student exchange program with the University of Northumbria (U.K.);
  • Promote and support student enrollment in the European Union Studies Certificate program;
  • Promote and support student enrollment in the USG’s on-line courses in Russian language;
  • Provide a report on Council activities at each meeting of the System Council on International Education;
  • Submit a detailed financial report to the System Council on International Education for all funds managed by the WRC;
  • Adopt a mission statement and by-laws modeled on those developed for World Regional Councils by the System Council on International Education.
