2006-2007 Charge To The Committee

The Committee on International Students and Scholars is open to all faculty and staff in the University System of Georgia who have professional responsibilities or interests in any of the areas that affect non-U.S. citizens who study, teach, or conduct research at USG institutions. These areas include (but are not limited to) admissions, campus services, immigration regulations, English as a second language, human resources, and cultural diversity. The Committee is chaired by a member of the System Council on International Education, who reports on the Committee’s activities and places Committee recommendations before the Council for action.

The Committee is encouraged to consider any issue relating to international students and scholars. For 2006-2007 the Committee is given a select charge to complete the following assignments:

  • Build an active participatory membership of campus professionals in the international students and scholars field, facilitating communication and providing a useful forum where issues of common concern can be shared, discussed, and resolved;
  • Encourage more effective campus and inter-institutional integration of international faculty, staff, students, and visiting scholars;
  • In collaboration with the USG Office of International Education and other offices of the Board of Regents, actively participate in the design and implementation of a new or revised health insurance policy for international students and scholars;
  • Assist the Office of International Education in designing and conducting targeted workshops on specific issues involving international students and scholars that respond to identified needs of USG institutions;
  • Assist the USG Office of International Education in collecting demographic data on the System’s international students;
  • Assist the USG Office of International Education in the clarification and streamlining of BOR policies and procedures affecting international students and scholars;
  • Continue discussion of on-going issues relevant to international students and scholars, including:
    • “homeland security” issues as they may affect international students and scholars;
    • the effectiveness and value of the System’s annual Georgia International Leadership Conference.
