2007-2008 Charge to the Committee

University System of Georgia
World Regional Council for Asia

Chair: Dr. Dan Paracka
Kennesaw State University

The World Regional Council for Asia (Asia Council) is open to all faculty and staff in the University System of Georgia who have an academic or international educational interest in the countries of the region. The Council serves as an instrument for facilitating communication and providing a useful forum where issues of common concern can be shared, discussed, and resolved.

The WRC is encouraged to consider any issue relating to its region. For 2007-2008 the WRC-Asia is given a select charge to complete the following assignments:

  • Develop a collaborative Asian Studies Certificate program;
  • Develop a proposal for a faculty development seminar to Asia in summer 2009, in accordance with guidelines and procedures of the SCIE Faculty and Curriculum Committee;
  • Promote study abroad programs to the region;
  • Develop procedures for Asia Council Study Abroad program endorsement.
  • Communicate with Asian nation consulates, bi-lateral chambers of commerce, and similar resources, as appropriate, for specific programs and initiatives;
  • Explore and develop alternative methods for meetings and exchanging information—e.g., through web-based, video, and telephone conferencing;
  • Designate WRC liaisons to each of the three SCIE committees, authorizing these representatives to be responsible for reporting Council activity to the Committees and for keeping Council members aware of Committee activity;
  • Provide a report on Council activities at each meeting of the System Council on International Education;
  • Submit by January 2008 a detailed financial report to the System Council on International Education for all funds managed by the WRC;
