Councils, Committees, and Institutional Resources

The University System of Georgia sponsors a variety of councils and committees that support collaboration and coordination in international education. The System encourages institutions to work together to accomplish goals and develop programs that may be difficult for an individual college or university to achieve or sustain independently.

System Council on International Education (SCIE)

Created in 1998, SCIE is the USG's primary international education governance advisory board. It is composed of representatives appointed by the presidents of each of the System's 35 institutions. Council members serve two-year terms and are the official liaisons for all Regents' communications and program initiatives.

SCIE Committees

Three committees focus on the primary functions of international education and bring policy recommendations to the SCIE for formal action. The committees play a key role in strengthening international programs across the System, and all interested faculty and staff are eligible and encouraged to participate in their meetings and activities.

World Regional Councils

Four councils focus on major geographic regions and develop programs to foster knowledge and understanding of those areas. Both area studies specialists and non-specialists are invited to participate in their meetings and activities.

Listservs

These electronic discussion groups provide opportunities to consider issues of both immediate concern and continuing interest. Contact Carrie Sloan at <carrie.sloan@usg.edu> to be added to a USG list.

  • USG Listservs - Each USG Council and Committee maintains a listserv to promote communication and discussion of issues.
