USG Provides Information Security Courses to State Agencies

Atlanta — March 18, 2011

The University System of Georgia (USG) Office of Information Security and Electronic Privacy and the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) have partnered to deliver the Information Security & ePrivacy awareness training to University System Institutions, Georgia Public Library Service, state agencies and local governments. The awareness training, designed by USG chief information security officer Stan Gatewood, focuses on teaching various security measures to IT security professionals throughout the state. “Awareness, training and education offer the best return on investment for any organization,” said Gatewood, “Simplicity and awareness are the keys to successful information security.”

The courses are intended to help ensure that an organization’s information and information systems are reliable, available, protected for confidentiality, and responsive to mandates from many levels of government. The target audience for the program is public and private sector security professionals and individuals in the information security and privacy field to help them upgrade their skills and increase their effectiveness. The awareness training consists of six courses:

  • Role and Responsibilities of a Information Security Officer – ISO in Public Sector
  • Building an Information and Privacy Program in Public Sector
  • IT/IS Risk Management in Public Sector
  • Continuity of Operations Planning – C.O.O.P. in the Public Sector: Backups & Recovery, Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity and Business Resumption
  • Information Security and Electronic Privacy for State and Local Government Leadership
  • Information Security and Electronic Privacy Leadership Training
