Media Advisory: Regents To Meet Dec. 6 To Address Chancellor’s Search

Atlanta — December 5, 2005

WHO: Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia

WHAT: A Special Called Meeting of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia will be conducted in Executive Session to discuss the search for a new chancellor of the University System of Georgia.

WHEN: 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2005

WHERE: The meeting will be conducted via conference call.

WHY: Since August of this year, the Board of Regents has conducted a national search to fill the position vacated by former University System of Georgia Chancellor Thomas Meredith, who resigned, effective Oct. 1, to accept a position heading the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning. Interim Chancellor Corlis Cummings presently heads the University System of Georgia.

An imminent announcement is expected from the Board of Regents regarding the appointment of the chancellor-designate of the University System of Georgia.

Media will be given advance notification of the required Special Meeting of the Board of Regents at which the regents will take action regarding the chancellor’s appointment.
