Albany State University President Everette J. Freeman has been named as the new president of the Community College of Denver in Denver, Colorado. Freeman, who has been president of ASU since 2005, will step down from the ASU position on Oct. 31.

“President Freeman has guided Albany State with integrity and with a focus on serving its students and the community,” said Hank Huckaby, chancellor of the University System of Georgia (USG). “Under his leadership, the University has created strategic partnerships with state, local and federal agencies and its financial performance has significantly improved. He also has made important contributions to the University System, particularly in the area of emergency planning.”

During Freeman’s tenure, ASU built a new early learning center, a student center, and two student residence halls. The University also was successful in retiring the debt service for the football stadium.

The campus is now well into completing the campus master plan which was updated in 2009 under Freeman’s leadership. The University was also successful in gaining full reaccreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 2008.

Albany State enrolls more than 4,000 students, offers more than 40 bachelors’ and masters’ degrees in business, criminal justice, nursing, public administration, social work and an educational specialist degree.

Information on the appointment of an interim president for ASU will be announced at a future date.
