University System-related Bills
The University System of Georgia will have two pieces of legislation introduced during the session regarding Carry Forward Authorization and the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP).
House Bill 45, the “Carry Forward” bill, is a house bill to extend the current sunset provision of the “Carry Forward” legislation that both the University System and the Technical College System of Georgia utilize. The law enables both Systems to carry forward into a new fiscal year a portion of fees and tuition. Representative Earl Ehrhart sponsors the bill.
The “ORP” legislation will allow the Board of Regents to set both the employee rate and the employer rate for the ORP in which some USG employees are enrolled. This legislation is scheduled to be introduced the week of Jan. 28.
