Maj. Gen. Maria Britt, the first female head of the Georgia National Guard and, since 2012, Kennesaw State University associate vice president for operations, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal.

The presidential award, presented by U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., is one of the nation’s highest. The citation recognizes Britt’s “exceptional meritorious service from February 21, 2008 to September 30, 2011, as the commanding general, Georgia Army National Guard.”

Ms. Rebecca Carroll is serving as Interim Vice President for Business and Finance, effective July 7, 2014. Rebecca joined Armstrong in 1995 as an Admissions Counselor in the Office of Admissions. In addition to this work, Rebecca has also served as an Admissions Processor and as Associate Registrar. Since 2003, she has served as Director of Human Resources. As part of her role as Director, Rebecca supervised the Budget Office from May 2008 to February 2009 and the Payroll Office from 2008-2010.

Rebecca received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Augusta State College and her Master of Education in Adult Education from Armstrong. Rebecca brings to this interim role extensive administrative experience, and she is well known and respected within the University and the University System of Georgia.

KSU launched an Honors College in January, and the Dean of University College was asked to serve as the Founding Dean of the new college. I accepted the position of Interim Dean in January. The national search will be launched in the fall.

In my new role as the Director of Collaborative Programs at the Pennsylvania State University I work out of the Office of the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses to develop and oversee academic programs. Working for the Associate Vice President and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs, I am building partnerships between the campuses, University Park, the World Campus, as well as internal programs such as Global Programs and Continuing Education.

I started in this role in February of 2014 and I have been working with the Directors of Academic Affairs at the institutions to create new degree program models that will provide new programs and increased educational opportunities for students within Pennsylvania.

Dr. Charles Patterson is the Vice President for Research & Economic Development and the Dean of the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies at Georgia Southern University. Dr. Patterson was recently elected President-elect of the Georgia Council of Graduate Schools (http://www.GaCGS.org) and is a Founding Member of the organization. The Georgia Council of Graduate Schools was founded in 2013 as an organization to represent graduate education in the state of Georgia. The purpose of the organization is to share knowledge of graduate education among its member institutions, to advocate for the improvement and advancement of graduate education through appropriate channels, to review and implement policies related to graduate education within the state, and to enhance communication with stakeholders. Member institutions include non-profit institutions, both public and private, including Georgia Southern University, University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Regents University, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University, Georgia College and State University, University of West Georgia, Fort Valley State University, University of North Georgia, Armstrong Atlantic University, Columbus State University, Albany State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Savannah State University, Savannah College of Art and Design, Piedment College, and Brenau University.

Ale Kennedy, Advanced Degree

Ale Kennedy is the Executive Director of Human Resources at Georgia Southern University, and has earned her Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Educational Leadership this spring. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Clemson University in 1994 and continued her education at Georgia Southern University by earning her Masters and Specialist degrees in Higher Education Administration.

Prior to assuming her current leadership position, Ale began her career in higher education in organizational development and human resources at the University of South Carolina in Aiken. Ale continued her passion in Human Resources at the formerly known Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. During this time-frame Ale held the position of Associate Director of Employee Relations and Training. Ale continued to develop and deliver training programs, as well as handle employee disputes. Ale was hired as Georgia Southern University in January of 2007 and became the Executive Director of Organization, Development and Learning and Employee Relations in 2009. Ale is very passionate about all the aspects of Human Resources and is extremely interested in leadership development and succession planning. Ale brings to the USG over 15 years of Higher Education and Human Resources experience.
