Chair: Dr. Neal McCrillis
Columbus State University
The World Regional Council for Europe (Europe Council) is open to all faculty and staff in the University System of Georgia who have an academic or international educational interest in the region. The Council serves as an instrument for facilitating communication and providing a useful forum where issues of common concern can be shared, discussed, and resolved.
The WRC is encouraged to consider any issue relating to its region. For 2008-2009 the WRC-Europe is given a select charge to complete the following assignments:
- Operate summer study abroad programs in London (UK), Paris (FR), St. Petersburg (RU), Madrid (SP), Waterford (IR) and Bonn(GE) in 2009;
- Operate and maintain participation in USG multi-institutional student exchanges, such as that with the University of Northumbria (UK) and ISEP;
- Develop a faculty development seminar to Europe in summer 2010 in accordance with guidelines and procedures of the SCIE Faculty and Curriculum Committee;
- Monitor activities of the European Union Studies Certificate program;
- Designate WRC liaisons to each of the three SCIE committees, authorizing these representatives to be responsible for reporting Council activity to the Committees and for keeping Council members aware of Committee activity;
- Provide a report on Council activities at each meeting of the System Council on International Education;
- Submit by January 2009 a detailed financial report to the System Council on International Education for all funds managed by the WRC;
- Build an active participatory membership of campus faculty and staff with European interests and expertise;
- Seek opportunities for a strategic expansion of summer and exchange study abroad programs;
- Explore opportunities for faculty exchange and collaboration;
- Consider new ways to serve two-year institutions more effectively.
