2008-2009 Charge to the Committee

University System of Georgia
World Regional Council for Asia

Chair: Eric Kendrick
Georgia Perimeter College

The World Regional Council for Asia (Asia Council) is open to all faculty and staff in the University System of Georgia who have an academic or international educational interest in the countries of the region. The Council serves as an instrument for facilitating communication and providing a useful forum where issues of common concern can be shared, discussed, and resolved.

The WRC is encouraged to consider any issue relating to its region. For 2008-2009 the WRC-Asia is given a select charge to complete the following assignments:

  • Implement a collaborative Asian Studies Certificate program;
  • Research and compile a list of Asian languages available in the USG and promote them across the System;
  • Promote and operate a faculty development seminar to Thailand in summer 2009, in accordance with guidelines and procedures of the SCIE Faculty and Curriculum Committee;
  • Develop procedures for Asia Council Study Abroad program endorsement, and promote study abroad programs to the region;
  • Utilize institutional and community resources to support Asia Council goals and to promote awareness of Asian initiatives;
  • Designate WRC liaisons to each of the three SCIE committees, authorizing these representatives to be responsible for reporting Council activity to the Committees and for keeping Council members aware of Committee activity;
  • Provide a report on Council activities at each meeting of the System Council on International Education;
  • Submit by January 2009 a detailed financial report to the System Council on International Education for all funds managed by the WRC;
  • Build an active participatory membership of campus faculty and staff with Asian interests and expertise.
