Institution Overview

South Georgia College is a residential two-year college focused on a core of strong teaching and student success. Founded in Douglas, Georgia in 1906, the college has a distinguished tradition of service throughout the region. Its 190 acre campus is among the most beautiful in the state.

While South Georgia College's students come primarily from southeastern and south central Georgia, the college's residence halls attract students from throughout Georgia as well as other states and nations. Students range in age from those just completing high school to students who delayed college enrollment for work, family, and military commitments.

SGC students pursue associate degrees that offer a strong foundation in majors designed for successful transfer to other colleges and universities, and associate degrees and certificate programs in majors designed for entry into careers in nursing, business, and other fields. The school offers a variety of opportunities to study abroad, principally in Europe and the Caribbean.

Outside of class, students participate in a wide range of student organizations, activities, cultural events, recreational sports, and the intercollegiate sports of baseball, soccer and softball. Recent campus construction has included a new residence hall, a renovated student center, a renovated and expanded science and mathematics facility, a multi-use trail, a renovated sports facility, and a renovated and expanded wellness center that features a gymnasium, fitness center, and Olympic size indoor swimming pool.

Affirming its role as an access institution, SGC offers Entry Programs at Valdosta in cooperation with Valdosta State University and at Americus in cooperation with Georgia Southwestern State University.

Founded over a century ago, the historic college became an original member of the University System of Georgia when the system was established in 1932. South Georgia College is dedicated to offering a Degree of Difference.
