Institution Overview

Macon State College is one of eight state colleges of the University System of Georgia. Macon State specializes in bachelor’s degree programs that combine a firm foundation in the liberal arts with courses of study that prepare students for professional careers in the seven-county Central Georgia region that it primarily serves. As a complement to its baccalaureate mission, Macon State, a non-residential metropolitan college, offers associate of arts and associate of science degrees and serves as a point of access to the University System.

Day, evening and online classes for full- and part-time students are offered on Macon State’s main campus, Warner Robins Campus and Robins Resident Center at Robins Air Force Base. Students also have opportunities to take online classes from work and home.

The 167-acre Macon campus, located in west Bibb County, features an Arts & Theatre Complex, a Student Life Center, home to all essential student services, the three-story Charles H. Jones Building, and a recently renovated Library and Academic Resource Center. Opening in 2009 is a $22 million, 100,000-square-foot Professional Sciences Building, an instructional complex for academic programs in business and information technology that will also serve as a high-tech conference center for continuing education.

Macon State’s Warner Robins Campus, situated on a 72-acre site along Watson Boulevard, just a half-mile from the main gate at Robins AFB, extends the reach and services of the College to Houston County residents and the neighboring communities. Enrollment continues to grow at the Warner Robins Campus, with more than 2,000 students taking classes there.

Since 1970, Macon State College has been helping military and civilian personnel of Robins Air Force Base meet their higher education goals at the University System of Georgia's Robins Resident Center, located on the base.

Macon State’s enrollment is approaching 6,500 traditional and non-traditional students. Their average age is 27. Minority students account for more than one-third of the student population.

Macon State students enjoy the college experience through co-curricular activities and services designed to promote campus spirit and community service. Student life at Macon State College supports more than 30 student organizations and publications, MSC-TV, intramural and recreational sports, a health clinic and a wellness program, as well as academic, personal and career counseling.

Macon State is a strong contributor to the area’s economic strength and seeks to be recognized as the single most valuable economic development resource in Central Georgia.

Macon Junior College was chartered in 1965 to serve the rapidly growing mid-state area. In 1968, the college opened with 1,110 students, the largest charter class for an institution of higher education in the state's history. The college formally became Macon State College in 1997.
